Personal and small business tax preparation on Summit Avenue. Open all year, not just tax season.
Pegues & Associates DBA TWC Financial is a tax preparation and accounting firm at 615 Summit Avenue in Greensboro, North Carolina, owned by Fredrick W. Pegues. The firm has served the Triad since 1995.
We prepare personal income tax returns and small business and LLC returns, and we handle bookkeeping, payroll support, quarterly filings and year-round tax planning for local businesses.
Call (336) 274-4788 or send the appointment form. Bring your ID, Social Security cards and income documents. Most personal returns are reviewed and e-filed in a single visit.
What we do
No call centre and no seasonal pop-up in a shopping plaza. The same team prepares your return, reads the letter you got in the post, and picks up the phone next January.
Individual, household and multi-state returns prepared to get you the best result the law allows.
The benefits of a large accounting firm with the attention of a neighbour. Clean books, quarterlies on time.
Full-service preparation for LLCs, sole proprietorships, partnerships and small corporations.
Decisions made in June change what you owe in April. We plan the moves while they still count.
We offer bank products that let qualifying clients settle the tax preparation fee out of the refund instead of paying up front. Ask us whether you qualify when you book.
How it works
Call the office or send the form. Tell us whether it’s a personal return, a business return, or both, so we set aside the right amount of time.
Photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone on the return, and your income forms. We send the full checklist when you book.
We walk you through the return line by line before anything is submitted. Once you’re satisfied we file it and you leave with a copy in hand.
Meet the owner
Fredrick W. Pegues owns and runs Pegues & Associates DBA TWC Financial on Summit Avenue. He built the practice around a simple idea: people deserve to understand their own return before they sign it.
That means no rushing you through a form you didn’t read, no guessing at numbers, and no disappearing after April 15th.

Questions
Pricing depends on which forms your return actually needs. A single W-2 return costs less than a return with a business schedule, rental income or multiple states. We quote you before we start work, so you know the number in advance.
The IRS issues most refunds within 21 days when you file electronically and choose direct deposit. Paper returns take longer, and returns claiming certain credits are held until later in the season by law.
Photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone listed on the return, and all your income documents — W-2s, 1099s, and business records if you are self-employed. Also last year’s return and any IRS letters.
Yes. The office is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. year round, with Saturdays by appointment. Tax questions do not stop on April 15th, and neither do we.

Home/Services
Personal returns, business returns, the bookkeeping behind them, and the planning that happens before any of it. All from the same office on Summit Avenue.
Individual, household and multi-state returns, prepared to get you the best result the law allows.
We prepare individual and business returns for households and small businesses across the Triad. Every return is reviewed with you line by line before it is filed, and every one is submitted electronically so your refund moves as quickly as the IRS allows.
Photo ID, Social Security cards for everyone on the return, and every income document you received. Bring last year’s return if you have it, plus any letter the IRS has sent you. If you are not sure whether something matters, bring it.
The benefits of a large accounting firm with the attention of a neighbour who knows your name.
Most small business owners do not have an accounting problem in February. They have a bookkeeping problem from the previous May that only shows up in February. We keep the books current through the year so filing season is a review rather than a reconstruction.
If you are self-employed and have been keeping receipts in a shoebox, that is a normal place to start. Bring the shoebox.
Preparation for LLCs, sole proprietorships, partnerships and small corporations.
For most small business owners the business return and the personal return are the same story told twice. Filing them separately, by different people, is how deductions get missed and how numbers stop matching. We prepare both.
S-corporation and partnership returns are due 15 March, a month before individual returns. Extended business returns are due 15 September. Penalties are charged per partner or shareholder, per month, so time genuinely matters here.
Decisions made in June change what you owe in April. We plan the moves while they still count.
By the time you sit down to file, almost everything that determines your bill has already happened. Tax planning is the work of getting to that appointment with fewer things you wish you had done differently.
We offer bank products that let qualifying clients settle the tax preparation fee out of the refund instead of paying up front. Ask us whether you qualify when you book.
Ring the office between 9 and 3 and describe your situation. We will tell you what applies.
Home/Tax Tips
Tax advice goes stale fast. This page follows the calendar instead of sitting still — what matters this quarter, what is coming next, and what has to be done before it passes.
Right now
Deadlines do not move because you were busy. If any of these apply to you and you have not started, ring the office — late is expensive in a way early never is.
Don’t wait for the last week. Call the office and we’ll get you on the calendar.
Through the year
Four windows. Each one has things that can only be done inside it.
The last estimated payment for the previous tax year. Paying it late adds interest even if your return ends up showing a refund.
If you employ people or pay contractors, these have to be issued by the end of January. We prepare and file them for business clients.
A full month before individual returns. Penalties here are charged per partner or shareholder, per month.
If you cannot file in time, file an extension — but an extension moves the filing date, not the payment date.
Self-employed income, rental income and investment income all feed into this. If your year is running ahead of last year, the payment should move too.
Half the year is measurable and half is still changeable. This is the cheapest moment to fix a withholding problem.
Catching up four months of records in June costs less than catching up twelve in February.
Most notices carry a response window. Bringing one in during June gets it read the same week.
Two deadlines share this date. Extended partnership and S-corporation returns land here alongside the third quarterly payment.
The end of the line for the previous tax year. Interest has been accruing since April on anything owed.
Equipment purchases, retirement contributions and entity decisions all take time to arrange.
Equipment placed in service, retirement contributions, charitable giving, deferring or accelerating income — the calendar closes and does not reopen.
If income came in higher than planned, there is still one quarter of room to reduce a penalty.
Cleaning twelve months of records in February costs more and slows your filing.
Ring the office between 9 and 3 and describe your situation. We will tell you what matters and what does not.
Home/IRS News
What the IRS has said, what it actually means for your return, and what to do if a letter turns up in your post. If something here does not match what you received, bring it in.
The IRS issues the majority of refunds within 21 days when the return is filed electronically with direct deposit. Paper returns take substantially longer. Returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit are held until later in the season by law, regardless of how early they are filed.
The IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool updates once every 24 hours, usually overnight. You will need your Social Security number, your filing status and the exact refund amount from your return.
First contact from the IRS comes by post. The agency does not call threatening arrest, does not demand payment by gift card or wire transfer, and does not ask for card numbers over the phone. If you get a call like that, hang up.
It is printed in the top right corner and begins with CP or LTR. That number tells you exactly what the letter concerns and what response is required. Most notices carry a deadline.
The IRS Identity Protection PIN is a six-digit number that must appear on your return for it to be accepted. Anyone can request one, not only victims of identity theft. It is reissued each year.
Three years covers the ordinary period during which the IRS can examine a return. Records supporting property or business assets should be kept for as long as you hold the asset, plus three years after.
These go directly to the IRS, so you are not chasing them through a search engine.
Bring it in unopened if you like. We will tell you whether it is genuine, what it wants and by when.

The office
Iona is the first voice most people hear when they ring Summit Avenue, and the first face they see when they walk in. She keeps the appointment book, knows which preparer you saw last year, and will tell you plainly what to bring so you don’t have to make the trip twice.
In memory
Their standard is the one we still work to, every filing season.
Founder of the firm. He built a practice where people were treated as neighbours first and clients second, and set the standard the office still works to.
